Exciting News! You're Invited! Saturday evening February 23rd from 5-9PM! Help AWARE celebrate the release of Witnessing Whiteness: First Steps Toward an Antriracist Practice and Culture, by AWARE'S very own Shelly Tochluk. This book highlights the learning that Shelly has gained through her four-year membership in AWARE. This will be a great opportunity to connect with fellow anti-racists, enjoy food, art, dialogue, and poetry, and find out about an introductory book that can help our friends, colleagues, and family understand why race and white privilege are still relevant issues. Join us in April at Amherst College! AWARE is taking WPC9 by storm. We have been invited to offer four different workshops at White Privilege Conference 9 this year! The Racial Justice Alliance will be presenting Powerful Partnerships: Transformative Alliance Building. Active Resistance will offer a workshop on Organizing and Movement Building. The Saturday Dialogue Facilitation Team will be helping folks understand AWARE's models and how they can develop Radical White Identity and Community in their cities. And, Shelly Tochluk will be doing an introductory workshop for beginners using her Witnessing Whiteness model. But that's not all! Toward a Radical White Identity - Our Theoretical Framework
AWARE MISSION STATEMENT
AWARE’s mission is to work toward the abolition of the White Supremacist System and all systems of supremacy through building communities of Radical White people in solidarity with people of color in the larger movement for racial, social, economic, and environmental justice. We will only use non-violent, peaceful means for achieving our mission and goals.
AWARE SYSTEMIC SOCIAL CHANGE GOALS
MOVE TO ACTION: To move white people to ACTION in alliance with people of color to a stand against racism and the White Supremacist System.
BASE BUILDING: To assist in CREATING a visible and organized strategic wedge of white anti racist opposition in this country.
NATIONAL MOVEMENT: To contribute to building a sustainable national anti-racist solidarity MOVEMENT that provides an infrastructure and vehicle for expanding white anti-racist organizing around the country.
SOLIDARITY: To create visible white anti-racist SOLIDARITY within the larger movements for social, economic, environmental and racial justice.
STRATEGIES (Using "Theory of Social Change" Model)
* Raise anti-racist consciousness and political education among white people.
* Create Radical White community to build white anti-racist movement.
* Actively support local struggles of people of color by participating in multiracial social justice movements.
* Contribute to building a national anti-racist solidarity movement by working with various regional and national groupings to build a national network infrastructure.
* Develop an organizational structure that effectively works toward systemic change goals while providing a leadership structure that creates a sustained pool of volunteer staff/leaders to drive the work forward.
